V for Putin

Russia wins WW 3 without a shot

America is chocking on corruption and Britain is being gutted like a stuck pig economically. Putin, however, is anointed Hero of Russia for his brilliant strategy and tactics.

2016 was the greatest defeat to democracy in the last 100 years. Democracy ate itself. And the two pillars of the modern democratic state were the unwitting targets — Britain and America.

Maybe the problem was too much peace. Britain has always been a canny player on the world stage. America had brute force backed up with passion. Between the two of them they led the fight that broke the back of fascism and strung up the dysfunctions of communism to rot on the limb. Then they made a fatal mistake. They let their guard down.

Is the war ever over? Putin never thought so. He waited. And then some bright brain, maybe Putin himself, had a brilliant insight. There was a huge opportunity waiting for a bold move. The insight revolved around three distinct features of the western world.

  1. Voter apathy
  2. Greed
  3. Over-confidence

Was Marx ever a hero to Putin? I don't know, but Marx nailed it. He nailed it so accurately, the leaders of the old Soviet Union only had to wait. Capitalism unchecked will eventually become top heavy and fail.

The rich will do anything for the poor but get off their backs. Karl Marx

The huge transfer of national wealth into the hands of a selfish elite, the insidious lie of ‘trickle down,’ the refusal by the super-elite to contribute to national growth, to plan for the common good, and a steadfast anti-leadership, anti-intellectualism tact of the Fear Right, culminating in the election of the perfect puppet for the oligarch class, has neutered democracy on both sides of the Atlantic to a fatal degree.

Then Putin made his move. Using micro-targeting on social media he shifted enough of the debate in the favor of his chosen puppet, Donald J Trump. Trump was the perfect combination of ego and naivety, to carelessly fall into Putin’s trap.

Putin wasn’t alone. Fear Right billionaires like Robert Mercer put their insidious technology at the service of Brexit. The goal was the same. Destroy liberal democracies and replace them with autocratic goverance at the service of the super-elite.

There are no barricades to resist the power of the super-elite. Climate change will force a reckoning soon enough. We’ve reached a critical intersection that means every election, every issues has become a signpost to a dark future or a rebirth. I’m too optimistic to believe this battle for liberty is lost. But we are desperate for leadership and commitment. Apathy is no longer an option. 2020 is less than two years away.
