Let’s talk Jesus. My Jesus not your Jesus.

My Jesus is a refugee. He’s fleeing hate. Governments are hunting him.

My Jesus is poor. He’s hungry. He’s harassed by powerful men. He’s threatened, but he walks on.

He has his Faith. That’s who my Jesus is. He’s in that much-maligned caravan in Mexico. He still has thousands of miles to go, and the Legions are waiting for him. They have weapons. My Jesus doesn’t. But American Caesar made it clear today. A rock is a weapon. Just standing by a road is an act of war.

My Jesus stands there. He stands up to authority. My Jesus has always been like that. He stands there in absolute humility. He waits for Caesar. Caesar washes his hands because Caesar always washes his hands. We’ve heard the story for two thousand years. It’s always the same story and it always has the same ending. But it’s a new story as well.

My Jesus is in Mexico. My Jesus has his sights set north. He walks toward Caesar, he puts himself in front of Caesar. He challenges Caesar and tells Caesar he must do what he must do. And Caesar always takes the bait.

No matter how humble or broken or wasted my Jesus is, Caesar always feels threatened, fearful, angry. Why is Caesar so fearful, threatened, angry? Because my Jesus walks in Love. He walks in Faith. He cannot feel threatened. He has the power of righteousness and God on his side. And if there any single thing that arrogant Caesar always forgets, it’s that.

My Jesus doesn’t lie. He doesn’t cheat. He doesn’t denigrate whores or the handicapped. My Jesus doesn’t pander to the merchants in the Temple and punish the poor. My Jesus puts love and humility and God first.
