Debate Candidates wrestle with classic liberal themes.

Line from last night’s debate that stuck with me — Andrew Yang: “We’re 10 years too late. We need to move people to higher ground.”

I admire people who step into a situation like that and speak a brutal truth. It also frames my biggest concern about these debates. Climate change is here and yet we still have long esoteric discussions about what we are going to do. We’ve leaders lying to us because I also believe people like Trump know full well climate change is real. He’s militarized the border in preparation. But who sees it?

Biden leads in most polls by big margins. Last night he played a front-runner’s role, patriarch, slightly condescending. He has a long track record to defend. He took tons of hits and was still standing at the end.

Harris was a little unsteady but I’m sure she’ll return in fighting spirit. I’m having a difficult time connecting with her though.

Booker won hands down. He was light, friendly, passionate committed. He’s been writing his story a long time. As people get to know him he’ll do well.

Right now to most voters this is all about name recognition and everybody knows Joe. But Warren is surging and even surpassed Biden in some overnights.
