Member-only story
It’s 2020, y’all
Let’s just say this year lost the plot.
In January 2020, I got pumped. I started a new venture. I reached out to partners. I wrote a plan. I built a web site. I was ready.
I’ve done a lot of business in China, so when I first read they were closing the city of Wuhan I took note. For two reasons: 1) The Chinese rarely give you the full story, so what WAS the story here. 2) Wuhaun was a massive city. Even the idea they’d lock the whole place down was mind-boggling.
My concern didn’t seem to be shared by any of our leaders, but two months later I lived in a ghost town called New York City.
No system of governance is more susceptible to a virus than American governance. We’ve grown potbelly values. A nation that used thrive on challenge and change is now bloated on pork-rind capitalism at a status quo square dance. A natural bred arrogance has finally met its unnatural bug. You can’t see the enemy, but you can hear it in the muffled cry of our masked economy.
Ultimately, we’ve suffered a crisis of leadership. There’s a 10 million infected legacy sitting on the Resolute Desk. There’s a multi-trillion dollar stone of debt hanging around our neck. Our children are home and our dreams are gone.
