How to create when you have no time and no inspiration?

Find the deep end and jump.

We’ve never lived in a time like this.

We can find out anything at any time. We can communicate anywhere at any time. We can create, collaborate and collect without getting out of bed.

We can live in the midst of an urban jungle and work with somebody on top of a mountain, or live on top of a mountain and work with somebody in an urban jungle.

It’s like the Golden Age of dreams. Dream it up and do it. There’s nothing stopping you.

The entire trick in this modern world is to learn how to get out of your own way. Once you do that, your dreams are unlimited. Of course, learning how to get out of your own is the hardest trick of all.

So how do you do that? How do you learn to not only dream, but take your life in your hands and fulfill those dreams? Because that’s what you’re doing. You’re taking your life in your hands. You’re taking control of things. And that terrifies people.

There’s no ‘security.’ No paycheck. No routine. At least that’s the way it feels, but it’s actually the opposite.

It’s more risky to leave your life in other peoples hands. It’s more productive to unstructure your life, follow your intuition and create the life you want.

I could make lists or reference great gurus, but its actually pretty simple. You need to change your perspective.

You may think you have no time, but you have all the time in the world. There’s an infinite amount of time available to you.

It can’t be that simple. Well, of course it is. It’s exactly that simple. The proof is all around you. What is time to an ocean, or a tree, or a dog?

I’m a deadline writer. I have to hit milestones with my work, my words and my music. I get paid to look at a blank sheet of paper and come up with ideas, and I have to get to the winning idea in a limited amount of time. I’ve done it very successfully for decades, so I know what works. And what works is I go for a walk and forget about it. As soon as I hit a roadblock I stop and do something else for awhile. I don’t think I’ve missed a deadline in 30 years.

You may or may not believe me, you may or may not believe the truth that time is infinite, that you are an infinite being on a infinite journey. All that may be too trippy or mystical or whatever to you, but if you accept it, if you embrace what time is, and how you fit into the infinite timeline of the universe, your fear falls away, your days stretch forever, you approach your work with the open minded acceptance of things that leads to your best work, your most productive life. The ideas flow.

Isn’t that the goal?
