Harris Has a Moment

I’d just finish watching the British Open and was considering a visit to the range when my phone flashed.

Biden drops out.

This is the kind seismic political event that glues me to the screen.

I like Kamala Harris. I voted for her in the 2020 primary. A woman. A woman of color. A DA. She struck me as tough. I thought Biden would be too old. I don’t think anybody over 70 should run for president. The job is too tough. I watched man after man age beyond his years in the office. I voted in 2016 thinking I was voting for the first woman president. We are way overdo.

I’ve been taken to task a lot in the past year. I constantly questioned the wisdom of putting an octogenarian in the chair. Of course, Biden did a fantastic job. In terms of legislative accomplishments he blew away the last president, and the one before that too. Biden had chops. He knew politics. He knew how to pull the levers. But I was feeling for the man.

I’m not that much younger. I feel it in my bones this aging thing. I watched him struggle up stairs. He was forcing himself. I became more uncomfortable with what we were asking day by day. The man served this nation for over 50-years. When is enough enough? Well, we found that out today. I felt relieved for Biden. Now he can be more real. Take a rest. Spend more time being.
