For the love of humanity.

There’s no red team and blue team.

I’m not a joiner. I don’t like clubs, teams, religions, Greek life, nations, races, anthems, flags or borders. I’ve lived in every nook and cranny of this beautiful planet. Humans, everywhere. We’re all the same thing. Flawed, loving, hating, skinny, fat, drunk, sober, gay, straight. It’s all the same.

You have to work to find differences. Fundamental differences, I mean. You have to teach your children to see them. You have to scold and shun and insist. You have make your blood boil and your hair sweat.

There are masters of our difference. They brow beat us. They send bolts of fear up and down our spine. And you have to ask yourself why.

Why are we against climate policy? Why don’t we want a better life for everybody? Why isn’t everybody entitled to health care? Why not educate our children? Why not hold police responsible? Why lie and blame and scream into the dark night?

It’s taken me forever to get here but it’s clear as a bright day now. I’ve come to judge all things on one idea. Not is it a red idea or a blue idea or an American idea. Is the idea for the love of humanity? Forget the win/lose transaction. That’s about power not love. There’s only one bar to clear.
