In which I explain why I am writing this review.

I wonder sometimes what has become of us. Or maybe we were always this way, but it was kept hidden in the non-digital world.

An odd way to begin a music album review, I know, but when I read some reviews of music these day, I am swamped by an over-whelming negativity, a striving for academic context, a lyrical analysis that seems to have more to do with the author’s circumstance than music.

Music.

Remember music?

Music is our most ineffable art. Music lives. Music breathes. Music dances, grooves, precise and loose.

God forbid, do not read the comments section of any review of music. Above all else, music is religion. Not the open your heart kind, but the Hammer of God kind, the go-to-Hell-all-ye-sinners kind. Thou shall not transgress the fan base and live your best artistic life. Thou shall be enslaved by our frozen expectation.

Which brings me to Eddie Vedder | Earthling.

In which I discuss music, hooks, and the song Invincible.

I am no fan of any music. I am a fan of all music. I take the music as it comes to me. Preferably without context, pre-judgement…
