American business needs to insist on flattening coronavirus inflections.
I have to say, I’m a little surprised the American business community has not been more outspoken at the poor leadership around this issue of flattening the curve of coronavirus infections. The consequences to the bottom line of many businesses are profound. And now American businesspeople are being treated like lepers in global markets. Properly so, as the government continues to fail in even the fundamental tasks of organizing for a public health crisis.
In New York, we paid a heavy price. It’s shattered the small business community. But we paid it and are now trying to get the city moving again, figuring out how to do business AND control the virus. It’s not an either-or situation. You need to do both. There’s no waiting for a vaccine.
Now other states, bastions of superstition and magical thinking, are threatening to drag us down again simply because of a stubborn immaturity when it comes to community policy.
It’s just bad for business and business needs to speak up. If you’re serious about our economy you need to be serious about our health. Not that hard to understand.
