11/12//2020 marks a crossroads for the United States.
126 congressmen and 17 states vote against democracy.
The Supreme Court applied a much-needed check to Trump’s assault on democracy. After four difficult years it’s long overdue. But what we are left with is an enduring stain.
The 2020 presidential election wasn’t close. Trump was trounced. With 300,000 Americans dead as a result of a callous dereliction of duty, the reason for the dismissal is no mystery. Trump leaves office with a dark, unspinnable legacy. History will not be kind.
But then we have Kevin McCartney, House Minority Leader. What possessed the man to sign onto a law suit without any factual evidence? Why did 126 Republican congressmen seek to dismiss the votes of 80 million Americans? Why did seventeen states seek to overturn the voter’s choice in four other states? What are we to make of this?
The simple answer is power. The Republican base loves to fight. Their anger is the point. Trump is a no-holds-barred fighter. He’s their champion. If that’s what the base wants they what they get. Policy and issues are secondary. When was the last time you heard a Republican discuss policy? Just come out swinging and you get votes.
